The commune is located south of Wrocław, between Środa Śląska and Kąty Wrocławskie. The authors of the volume indicate on the changes that the commune landscape was subject to between 13th-20th c. Today, the area of the municipality covers mostly fields (88%), with forests occupying only 8% of the general area of the commune. Was this the result of the accelerated modernization of the 19th-20th centuries in the vicinity of Wrocław? Or maybe a long process reaching the roots of the Middle Ages? Through the statements of the then residents and people from the outside interested in the area, we are analysing the mentality of the inhabitants as well as ecological conditions of the local economy. Let's take a look: before the 19th century, references to the owners of house and fields, less frequently institutions of social and economic life (churches, mills, taverns) dominated in the descriptions of the village. The portrait of Kostomłoty and the area emerging from cartographic photographs of the 19th-20th centuries shows a picture of fertile land used for agricultural purposes. The Kostomłoty cartographic portrait was certainly influenced by the cultural landscape of the region, but general tendencies did not determine it.}, title={Kostomłoty commune.
